SEMHPO Axis

A stressful event in life, evil thoughts, disturbs the neuroendocrine axis. If we are too stressed out, it affects the total harmony of the various systems in our body. There is an imbalance in functioning of autonomic nervous system. Functioning of endocrine glands too is disturbed because of feedback mechanism from hypothalamus and pituitary. The various target organs influenced by these hormonal levels are ovaries (menstrual cycle), adrenal glands (persistently raised level of steroid and sugar), thyroid, breasts and growth hormone (premature aging).
Chronic stress also affects the immune system giving rise to recurrent attacks of boils on skin, recurrent cough and cold etc. Process of aging, degenerative changes is accelerated. Allergic skin eruptions are common because of effect of chronic stress.
This is the HPO axis.
As per the latest concept in psychology the spiritual quotient is superior to the emotional quotient and intelligence quotient.
Yoga means spiritually evolving, yoga means emotional culturing, yoga means physical reconditioning. Keeping these aspects of Yoga, Guruvarya Anna has formulated SEM axis over and above the HPO axis, where S= Spirituality, E= Emotions and M= Mental state. This SEM axis which is otherwise unexpressed is more effective and powerful than the HPO axis which is expressed.
Yogic practices at all level i.e. physical ( asana, mudra, bandha), mental (pranayama), emotional (japa, mantra, devotional songs), spiritual (pratyahar, dharana, dhyan) can help in health promotion and specific protection, treating the early symptoms of disease, help to accept disease is a better way.
