"Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) and Yoga"

Inroduction : Tha news that, there is a 300% rise in Computer related eye problems all over the world was shocking. Computer Vision Syndrome is defined as complex of eye and vision problems that are experienced during and related to computer use. A pilot study of effect of yogic eye practices on regular computer users should remarkably encouraging results.
Aim : Encouraged wi.th the results of pilot study, futhe study was aimed at finding out effect of regular yogic eye practices on improving tear breakup time and improving other related symptoms of CVS.
Method : A group of 14 adults with varying age limits between 17 to 43 years, working with computer for at least 8 hours or more per day was selects for study

They were computerd with a similar group of 10 individuals, working with computer for at least 8 hours or more per day. Detailed information about ergonomics, related eye symptoms was found out.

The study group underwent yoga training for a period of 3 weeks. The yoga practices consisted of 'OM' Tratak, Jyoti Tratak, Jatru Tratak, Netra Sanchalan, Palming, Asanas, Pranayam, Yoga Nidra, Meditation, Devotional session, Cleansing practices like Kapalbhati, Jalaneti.

Assessment was done at the beginning end of 3 weeks on both the groups by two ophthalmologists, eminent yoga teachers,therapy experts.
Results : Yoga Practicing group should significant improvement in tear breakup time (TBUT). The results obtained in both eyes were proved statistically significant by using paried 'T' test. There was also significant improvement in subjective symptoms of CVS in study group.
Conclusion : All the sadhakas who participated in study, including the control group were examined by ophthal-mologists to rule out any other associated ceuse responsible for eye trouble

1. All Sadhakas of study group felt  extremely good and energetic through out the day. There was a complete relief in subjective symptoms of headache, backache, irritability, depression etc. their capacity to work without getting exhausted had increased. There was a definite feeling of 'Ahysical" and emotional 'well being'

2. A statistically significant paired 't' test result obtained for increased non invasive tear breakup time of study group, while as absolutely no change in control group definitely proves the fact that yogic eye practices help in improving the tear film of eyes, thereby reduce the eye symptoms arising out of computer use

3. Informative lectures helped to change their working environment, sitting position, ergonomics to some extent, which also benefited them to overcome the trouble.

4. Lot of treatment, modalities are being suggested to overcome CVS including use of artificial tears, computer glasses etc.
Regular Yogasadhana seems a very good option as preventive and therapeutic
means to overcome CVS as it :
            -  Can be easily learnt
            -  Can be cost effective
            -  Has no side effects                       
            -  Will be beneficial for life time
            -  Will bring about Positive effects on physical, mental, emotional, spiritual health of the affects person.
For Eye trouble' remedy is Eye drops
For trouble  remedy is Drop
We drop both eye drops
Only remedy for both troubles would be regular Yoga Sadhana.

Number of affected individuals included in our study group has been small. Still the results obtained have been statistically significant to continue study in future.
